For the most part, I am quite happy with my finished product. I sent the final product along with a feedback questionnaire to a couple of people within and outside of my target audience to gather their thoughts on it to see how successful I was in making a good music video. It received a lot of positive feedback from people within and outside of my target audience. I used the feedback from my first draft to improve on my final product by re filming some shots, adjusting the editing to not feel awkward and adding some different effects/text.
The process of editing my music video went quite smoothly, I wasn’t met with a lot of limitations and it turned out how I had planned. I had marked the beats before placing the clips so that watching the video was satisfying and matched the lyrics correctly. I primarily used premiere pro to put the clips together and edit them and then used after effects to add the filter and text effect.
The process of planning and presenting my narrative in an interesting but easily understandable way for my audience was a challenge without telling them directly what the narrative was. This is why I relied a lot on the editing to tell the story and not just the footage. An example of this was the repetition of the day to show how the days were feeling the same and that the character was stuck in a loop. A lot of my audience interpreted the narrative the way I wanted them to, which means my preferred reading was understood. I was successful in showing the narrative in a way that was widely understood.
The meaning behind the shots of the clock was interpreted correctly by a couple of viewers which I’m happy with as I thought people would not notice. The clock was a constant in the music video. It’s meant to remind the audience of how little time the character felt they had during the narrative and how life was catching up to them. It's the first thing we see in the video but it isn't the last since it shows the character's growth: they will not let stress control their life anymore, they control their life now. The second half of the music video does not have clocks to show that she is pacing herself and taking control of her life again.
Goodwin’s music video theory influenced my work as I thought of the lyric/visual relationship of my video when editing. I would cut to the beat or to the lyrics to explain the narrative of the video better. I did not have voyeurism as it is not common for this genre of music, this would mean that it would not appeal to any aspect of my target audience. Another music video convention I used was making mine a narrative. My music video fits into the narrative category of music videos and tells a story to reflect the meaning behind my interpretation of the lyrics.
If I could do this work again, I would try to get a hold of a tripod that can reach taller places, mine could not reach the clock on the wall so I had to hold it which meant some footage was out of focus, shaky and out of place which were some criticisms I received from my final product. I would also try to include intertextual references to engage with my audience and appeal to a wider audience.
