As research, I listened to a podcast called the Black Tapes. It is a crime fiction podcast by Paul Bae and Terry Miles which is hosted by Alex Reagan. It is a 'serialised docudrama' in which a journalist looks for the truth behind  mysterious happenings. The podcasts bumper consists of a theme song with recordings of phone calls, radio transmissions and conversations. This is what inspired my bumper as I wanted a way to explain the mystery that was going to be discussed in an interesting, immersive way that would let the audience feel part of and connected to the story. I also read a book called 'Allegedly' by Tiffany D. Jackson about a child convicted of murder and the characters trying to figure out the truth. I wanted to explore a similar story and came up with my Sam Bryant case in which a woman is on the run due to being the primary suspect of the murder of her child and her husband.

target audience

Data collected around the crime genre (source) shows that the biggest portion of the consumers of it are millennials (aged 18-34), generation X (aged 35-54) and are female, so they will be my target audience. Most consumers have also received a college education, meaning my main audience will be educated. To appeal to my target audience, I have used sophisticated language in my podcast whilst also using colloquial language for Sam’s monologue so that listeners felt a familiarity with her when listening and could understand her emotions at the time. My Unique Selling Point will be the mystery that Sam is hiding and the depth to her character that is gradually revealed during the podcast.
